Fun Ways to Spend the Summer Sober

School is out for summer, and this is the first sober summer of your life. You may feel anxiety that you are unable to do the usual things that a teenager does with his friends because you are fearful that you will want to drink or use around them, and with your consequences becoming too high, you do not wish to go down that road again. Finding fun things to enjoy while sober is an option for you can be challenging. However, you can still have a great summer without drinking or using drugs. At Stonewater, we understand how important it is to stay sober, and our team can help you enjoy your summer in sobriety. If you are struggling with alcohol and need to learn more about our alcohol addiction treatment to get you back on the path to recovery, call us at 662.373.2828.

How to Have Fun in Sobriety

Spending your summer in sobriety should be something to embrace. There are many things for you to do in the summer, and many don't include alcohol. We have put together some of the most popular activities our residents enjoy doing during the summer.

Host a Photo Scavenger Hunt

Get a group of your sober friends to play this game with you. Go to a nearby park or the beach and give everyone a list of exciting people, places, or things to capture on camera. Some items may include you in the picture, creating a fun environment for laughter and silliness. The person or team that comes back with the most photos on the list wins a prize. A scavenger hunt is a great way to create lasting memories without having to worry about alcohol being involved.

Start a Movie Club

You may be through with books for the summer, but movies can be a way to get everyone together for a fun evening. Everyone can take turns presenting movies at their house each week and then analyze the movie together afterward. Have all the members of the club pitch in a few bucks to help with costs for movie snacks and movie rentals. Then you can give each movie a rating and review and share it with your friends.

Go on a Hike

Navigate the local hiking trails around your area and get moving. Being out in nature is a great way to connect to nature. Nature can also help you remember why you got sober in the first place. Take a picnic in your backpack to enjoy the scenic view you trudged to get to, and take a breath before you return to reality.

Splash at a Waterpark

Find your nearby waterpark and get a day pass to spend riding the rides and swaying in the wave pool. Swim with your friends to keep cool in the water. Try going down every ride to see which one is the fastest and most daring to initiate. Being sober does not have to be dull and lifeless. Get out there and enjoy your summer when sober. You will be glad you did.

Take a Cooking Class

Learning to cook can be a great way to spend quality time with your friends and expand your culinary skills. Find a local cooking class for which you and your friends can sign up. This will give you something to do together while also learning to cook new recipes. Who knows, maybe you will be able to make dinner for your friends after class is over. No matter what you choose to do this summer, you can have fun in sobriety. Reach out to us to learn how you can have a sober summer.
