When people think of self-care, they often think of taking bubble baths with aromatherapy candles lit in the corners of the tub, getting a manicure and pedicure at the salon, or practicing yoga. While this may seem feminine, there is nothing wrong with a guy experiencing these same examples of self-care on their own time. The bottom line is that self-care is an important factor for everyone to utilize in their life, even for males. It also can help many teens manage their mental and physical health. At Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center, we're committed to providing teenage boys with the tools to successfully get sober and improve their mental health. One of the tools that we use to do that is to help them practice good self-care. We provide a range of therapeutic options for each team we work with to set them up for success. For more information about how we can help teenage boys practice
self-care for men, please contact Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center today at 662.373.2828.
Advocates Good Hygiene
Taking care of yourself can begin with cleanliness. Regular teeth brushing, and application of deodorant can make others around you rejoice in your scent. Enjoy taking a hot shower knowing that when you do, the hot water promotes relaxation in your muscles and loosens your joints. Add some soap that you take pleasure in smelling to add to the mix. You will feel clean as a whistle once you get out into your towel.
Promotes Wholesome Living
Eating healthy foods and exercising can make a big difference in how you feel in your daily life. For example, exercise can help to build muscles for strength and release endorphins to make you feel good. It can also release pent-up tension and toxins when sweating. After a solid workout, eating foods that can enhance your workout efforts can optimize your fitness by not only feeling good but looking good as a result. Try to increase the number of fruits and veggies in your diet, and add some whole wheat bread. You can also begin eating more protein on a regular basis. Doing so will help your body to function at peak capacity.
Creates Mindfulness
Not all self-care has to do with improving your outer self. Your inner self needs some attention too. Using activities such as mindfulness and positive self-talk will go a long way in helping you feel like a million bucks. You may want to try out podcasts that can support mediation or generate better headspace to boost your confidence. If you don't like podcasts, there are also plenty of YouTube videos that can help you practice mindfulness as well.
Inspires New Hobbies
Many people are reluctant to try new things. However, if you attempt something that is brand-new, you may just enjoy it. Of course, you may sabotage yourself from getting out there to aspire to do something that is foreign to you. If you never try, you will never know.
The act of self-care is also an act of self-love to yourself when you regularly practice the behaviors that pertain to being attentive to your personal needs. You may not realize that self-care is so beneficial to the totality of the mind, body, and spirit, but it will complete you.
